I would like to share with you a trip I will be taking July 17 - Aug 3, 2009 to Kigali, Rwanda in Africa, which will be a life changing experience. This will be my first opportunity to go Africa to talk with people about the God I love.

The Quail Springs Church of Christ supports the Christ's Church in Rwanda, which is where I will begin my trip. After a couple days, we will head to the Kumbya camp. This Kumbya camp retreat is a time for missionaries from the area to come together for re-energzing, re-fueling and fellowship. My team will be responsible for providing breakout sessions for the children of the missionaries.

The Kumbya camp is on Lake Kivu in southwest Rwanda. The annual missionary conference was started in 1947. Over the years, the attendance has varied from 30 to over 200 missionaries and other expatriates from Rwanda, Congo, Burundi, Tanzania, and Uganda. This conference is open to believers working cross culturally.

Since I graduate as an RN in May I will be spending a lot of my time at the Free Methodist Hospital at Kibogora a few kilometers away. The Kibogora complex provides the only hospital service in a district of approximately 250,000 persons. During 2007, there were 215 seriously malnourished children under 5 years old admitted to the feeding program, this is an increase on the previous year and the indications are that this trend is likely to continue. In addition there were 225 malnourished children admitted suffering from Aids related illnesses.

This will be an opportunity to meet missionaries who are working in the various areas throughout East Africa and an exposure to a people who are rebuilding their world after a terrible war.

Please pray specifically for the safety of this trip and that God will bless our team and missionaries who attend, to allow them to continue spreading the gospel.
